Connie Leyva Announces Re-Election Campaign for State
Senate District 22
Senator Leyva kicks off her re-election bid with most
experience and strongest track record for working people
Chino, CA—With more than seven years of experience serving and
being elected by the majority of voters comprising the newly drawn
Senate District 22, Senator Leyva enters the race with the strongest
record of accomplishments for the region.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue
serving the communities I have worked with so closely over the past
seven years as State Senator,” said Leyva. “We’ve kept our state
budget in check and now we can put more resources into services and
housing for our homeless residents, build more affordable housing, and
create greater economic stability for working people as we come out of
the pandemic. I look forward to working with people in every
neighborhood to solve the tough problems and help more families reach
the middle class.”
Senator Leyva currently serves as Chair of the Senate Education
Committee, is a member of the California Air Resources Board, and is
the past-Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
As a leader in the State Senate, Leyva has helped create more
opportunities for working people to get ahead by increasing the
minimum wage, making the first year of community college free,
increasing access to career technical training, and strengthening
enforcement of wage theft violations. Leyva also led the efforts to
pass groundbreaking legislation to empower women, hold polluters
accountable to clean our air, and give teachers, parents, and students
a stronger voice to improve schools.
Leyva was first elected to the State Senate in 2014 after more than
a decade of serving as president of her local grocery worker union,
UFCW Local 1428 and as a statewide leader for more than 2.1 million
union members of the California Labor Federation.
The new Senate District 22 includes the communities of Azusa,
Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Chino, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, La Verne,
Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, San Dimas, South El Monte, and West
Covina. More than half of this new district has been represented by
Senator Leyva for the past seven years.
