Friend,

Looking ahead to 2022, there’s a lot to be worried about. Indeed, you may even be terrified.

But here’s something you might not be expecting to hear from a bunch of progressive journalists operating a newsroom with a front row seat to so much that is vile and unjust in this world.

But when we think about 2022 . . . we’re optimistic.

When we look out at the world, we don’t see only the rising threats that saturate our coverage.

We also see rising movements for climate justice and racial equality. We see workers flexing their collective muscles to demand livable working conditions and better pay. As the pandemic persists, we see people worldwide demanding that public health and justice be put before the profits and greed of Big Pharma. We see all that, and it gives us hope.

In the streets and online and in our own communities, we see people young and old who haven’t become jaded by disappointment or cynical about what’s possible as they take the lead to save the future for all of us.

Our mission is simple: To inform. To inspire. To ignite change for the common good. We believe we see those sparks of change and rumblings of a better world—even through the fog.

Today—if you believe in our work and want to support our independent journalism—please donate to our End-of-Year Campaign.

Thank you for making the world a better place, and thank you for supporting these common dreams we share.

Merry Christmas Eve, and wishing you joy and health this holiday season.
