Dear Nrdc Supporter,
I am excited to announce that we have appointed Gina McCarthy as NRDC’s
new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Gina brings an extensive career in public service, most notably, serving
as the U.S. EPA chief for four years under President Barack Obama during
one of the most consequential periods in the agency’s history.
At the U.S. EPA, Gina dramatically strengthened protections for clean air
and water, launched the Clean Power Plan, which set the first-ever limits
on carbon pollution from power plants, and helped to lead the world to
reach the landmark 2015 Paris climate agreement.
She will be taking the helm of NRDC at the most critical time in the
environmental movement’s history, as the Trump Administration has enacted
the most aggressive and sweeping assault on environmental, public health,
and climate safeguards that America has ever seen.
Thankfully, Gina is one of the most effective environmental champions of
our time. She knows better than anyone what we can – and must – do to
combat climate change. She has fought to ensure clean water and air,
healthy wildlife and habitats, and vibrant and thriving communities.
She has a 35-year track record of developing solutions that are grounded
in sound science, social justice, public interest, and the rule of law.
And she’s committed to making sure we leave our children a just and
livable world, which lies at the heart of NRDC’s mission.
NRDC is strong and getting stronger. Backed by your incredibly generous
support, we’ve been fighting back against President Trump’s assaults, in
and out of court. And we will be fortunate indeed to have Gina leading us
in the fights ahead.
Gina’s official start date is January 6th, 2020. You will hear directly
from her shortly after she begins, as I know she is eager to connect with
you.
As we look forward to Gina’s leadership in the new year, I would also like
to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to Mitch Bernard, NRDC's
Chief Counsel, who has served with distinction over the past several
months as Interim President. We are deeply appreciative of his leadership
of this organization.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we embark on this
next great chapter in NRDC’s history together.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Alan Horn
