Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

On Monday,?Governor Mike DeWine was in Springfield to celebrate the grand opening of the area's new Groceryland store.?
Also on Monday,?Governor DeWine announced that grant funding has been awarded to support child advocacy centers and trauma recovery centers?whose finances have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Payments totaling more than $800,000 were awarded to 17 centers to help with revenue losses and other pandemic-related costs incurred?between March 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2021.
"The services these centers provide are essential for helping young victims of crime process trauma and navigate the complexities of the criminal justice system," said Governor DeWine. "The coronavirus relief funding we're awarding will replace revenue lost due to the pandemic in an effort to help these agencies continue providing their critical services."?
Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced on Tuesday the launch of a new grant program to help revitalize local communities through the demolition of blighted and vacant buildings.
The new Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program will provide nearly $150 million in grants to raze dilapidated commercial and residential buildings and revitalize surrounding properties.
The program is part of the DeWine-Husted Administration's strategic efforts to invest in Ohio's future.
?There are dangerous, blighted buildings all over Ohio that are nothing more than eyesores that restrict new development," said Governor DeWine. "We want our local communities to? thrive, and through this new grant program, we will help all 88 counties tear down dilapidated structures to make room for future growth."
"We?re attracting companies to Ohio because of our low taxes and excellent business climate, but they need sites to set up shop," said Lt. Governor Husted. "Remediating these properties turns the blight into new opportunities to attract investment, business, and jobs."
Governor DeWine signs House Bill 169.
Governor Mike DeWine signed?House Bill 29,?Senate Bill 58,?House Bill 122,?Senate Bill 217,?Senate Bill 59,?Senate Bill 157,?Senate Bill 162,?Senate Bill 166, Senate Bill 102, and House Bill 169 into law this week.
As of?Thursday, there have been 1,896,577 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Ohio. Additionally, 28,277 confirmed and probable COVID-19 deaths have occurred. A total of 94,139 people have been hospitalized, including 11,540 admissions to intensive care units.
