Dear John,
As another challenging year winds down, we are taking a moment to reflect upon how far we’ve come, and what lies ahead.
At Sister District, we remain humbled by the continued enthusiasm of our entire community. From volunteers to donors to candidates to partners, every one of you has shown your unwavering commitment to building progressive power at the state level.
Together, this year we raised over $721,000 for our candidates and State Bridges partners, reached out to 332,052 voters over 19,646 volunteer hours, trained 16 former candidates to run for office again in 11 states, conducted 9 academic quality studies on voter and volunteer behavior, and brought together 58 progressive state legislators from 32 different chambers to collaborate and learn from each other.
We started Sister District five years ago out of despair that the Trump Administration would dismantle our democracy. But we continue because we see the progress we have made and must continue to make on this long road. And we are energized by you, the Sister District community. Your resilience and dedication brings us hope, every day.
It’s no secret that 2022 will be another hard fight. But we believe that even when our work feels like two steps back for every one step forward, our problems are solvable if we work together.
So as 2021 closes, we are reminded of a few powerful words that opened it. As poet Amanda Gorman said at President Biden’s inauguration: “There is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it / If only we’re brave enough to be it.”
Thank you for bravely standing with us. From our family to yours, Sister District wishes you a safe and happy holiday season.
– Lala, Gaby, Lyzz, and the Sister District team
