Dear Defender of Wildlife,
We're calling on members like you in and around Washington, D.C. to help oppose the Forest Service's catastrophic plan to open up the Tongass National Forest to logging!
The U.S. Forest Service recently moved forward with a devastating rule that puts over 9 million acres of the Tongass at risk of road construction and old-growth clear-cut logging.
This unique forest contains one of the largest intact old-growth rainforest ecosystems in the world. It provides pristine habitat for wildlife like wolves, Sitka black-tailed deer, bears, eagles and northern goshawks. These species depend on intact, functioning forests for survival – but the Forest Service’s plans will wreak havoc on the habitat these animals need to survive. Preserving the Tongass National Forest is also critical to mitigating the worst effects of climate change.
You can help the Tongass and its wildlife by showing up at the Forest Service’s public meeting to oppose its plan to sell out millions of acres to logging companies. Sign up below to help us stand up to this disastrous plan!
WHAT: Public Meeting to Protect the Tongass National Forest!
WHEN: Thursday, November 14th, 2019, 4:30pm - 6:30pm
WHERE: Holiday Inn Washington Capitol, Congressional II Rm, 550 C St. SW, Washington, D.C. 20024
Defender of Wildlife, we can't stand idly by while the agency responsible for maintaining our country's forests bows to logging interests that will devastate irreplaceable habitat for future generations.
Defenders will provide talking points for participants eager to ask questions to the Forest Service. Or, you can simply demonstrate support by showing up and wearing pro-Roadless Rule buttons and stickers provided by Defenders.
This is our best chance to oppose the Forest Service’s proposal face to face. Come out and join us as we fight back against the Trump administration’s continued assault on America’s public lands!
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Deanna Noel |
