John,

The Texas Freedom Network was proud to stand with scholars and activists who called for the State Board of Education to approve an elective course in Mexican American Studies for Texas public schools. It took four long years, but the state board finally did it last year.

Now let’s make it happen for African American Studies. You can help by speaking out in favor of an elective course in African American Studies at a public hearing before the board on Nov. 13!

You must register between 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, and 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.

For too long now, Texas has done a poor job making sure that students learn about the contributions and experiences of people of color in our state and nation’s history. Let’s tell the State Board of Education that it’s time for Texas to teach the truth and tell the full story of our nation and all of its people.

If you are a scholar, educator or specialist in African American Studies and want to help get this course approved, click here to let us know.

In the fight,
