It starts right away in January, when we'll continue fighting with everything we've got for the Build Back Better Act and historic climate action. We are confident in our path forward, but the reality is that our narrow pro-environment majority in Congress makes this fight a marathon, not a sprint. Plus, Republicans are putting everything they have into obstructing action and taking back the House and Senate next year. And they're getting even bolder as they hear Donald Trump talk about running again in 2024.
Mother Earth continued to send us an SOS this year—whether it was the IPCC's "code red for humanity" report, the devastating climate disasters throughout the year, the accelerating loss of endangered species and biodiversity. We're going to have to work double-time to secure every victory: passing a strong Build Back Better Act, ending fossil subsidies (American taxpayers support the industry with $15 billion a year), and securing equitable clean air and climate protections that were stripped under Trump.
YOU will help achieve victories like protecting the Tongass National Rainforest—a vital economic hub for tourism, fishing, and outdoor recreation, and a source of 44% of the carbon stored by all of our national forests.
YOU will make it possible for us to mobilize our massive grassroots supporters for efforts to securing final passage of the transformative Build Back Better Act. We've already organized 177 events, 30,000 phone calls and 100,000 emails to the White House and our Members of Congress, including leading in key states with our chapters in Arizona and West Virginia, and we're far from done yet.
YOU will support efforts like our 30x30 campaign—protecting 30% of lands by 2030, heading off the climate and extinction crises and keeping more public space for everyone to enjoy.
So don't wait. The next year will be full of challenges, but I know your support will help us meet every fight head on. We're wishing you the best as we leave for our break. And we hope you'll sleep better knowing that we'll be back at our desks again soon, fighting for everything we hold dear.
