friend,
I know where I came from.
When I was 8, I fled war and displacement in Somalia. For years, I sat in a refugee camp in Kenya with no running water -- and with the hope of a better life in America.
No matter your story -- where you’re from, who you love, or the color of your skin -- your destiny, my destiny, the destiny of workers around the world are linked together.
Since I shared the stage with Bernie Sanders on Sunday, I’ve seen an outpouring of people sharing where they started from and shared my own story:
We’re building a movement that is representative of all of our aspirations, all of our pain, and all of our shared trauma. So where we came from is just as important as the better, brighter future we’re building together.
Let’s keep this momentum going. Click here to share your story on Twitter — my team made a template for you!
We’re going to come together to demand change. We’ll combat the existential threat of the climate crisis with a Green New Deal. We’ll guarantee healthcare for every American with Medicare for All. And we’ll make sure America is a beacon of hope and opportunity.
Thank you for standing with me, with Bernie, and with each other.
Always in solidarity,
Ilhan
