Sooner or later, each and every one of us will deal with setbacks of one kind or another. Some may be small; some may upend your entire life.

In the decade since I survived being shot while meeting with my constituents in Tucson, Arizona, I’ve learned two big things about setbacks. The first is that it isn’t the setback that defines us; it’s how we respond. The second is that progress is rarely – if ever – linear.

That second lesson is what I want to talk to you about. I’m writing to ask for your support to help reelect my friend Senator Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire.

Over the years, Maggie has proven herself to be a fighter for commonsense gun safety legislation that will save lives in New Hampshire and nationwide. But our progress on this issue and so many others is on the line in 2022.

It can be tough to weather attack ads and tough polling. It can be tough to face partisan politics and hold on to the will to find common ground and get things done.

But here’s the thing I admire about Maggie: no matter the setbacks, she’s laser-focused on fighting for hard-working Americans, and she’s a committed public servant in the fight to save lives from gun violence.

Maggie’s reelection is going to be tough, and the polls do indeed show a close race. With 2022 projected to be challenging for Democrats, I’m asking you to please recommit to moving forward through our setbacks by rushing $5 or more to Maggie’s reelection. She is facing a big public deadline at the end of the month, and your urgent support is needed before she closes the books on 2021. [[link removed]]
