Here are some facts and figures about my state, Iowa (sources at the end of the email.)
Iowa incarcerates people at a higher rate than the U.K., France, Portugal and Canada combined.
Iowa detains more Black youth at a higher rate than any other state in the nation.
The Black/white disparity in Iowa’s youth placement rate is the eighth-highest in the country.
The Black/white disparity in Iowa's incarceration rate overall ranks 7th in the country.
We can do better and we must do better. Polk County is the largest county in Iowa with 15% of Iowa's population.
If I’m elected the next Polk County Attorney, my office will work to eliminate racial and income disparities. We will work to stem the tide of mass incarceration and create a truly just, restorative justice system. We will increase public safety through justice reform.
We cannot do this alone though. It will take us all working together.
We can win this race, but we need your time and we need funding to pay for yard signs, radio ads, literature to leave for folks when we knock doors, and much more.
Follow the links below to donate and/or sign up to volunteer. We plan to start door knocking, calling and texting folks in January, just a few weeks from now. If you can even donate 30-60 minutes one time, that helps! If you can donate $1 or $5, that all adds up, too. Thank you!
