As a working mom with two children, I can tell you firsthand that the expanded child tax credit (CTC) this year has made a world of difference.

When Congress included an expansion of the CTC in the American Rescue Plan, it was an example of the people-focused legislating that we need a lot more of in government. In the wake of a devastating pandemic and the following economic recession, it helped millions of families afford childcare and basic living necessities.

Expanding the child tax credit for 2021 provided essential relief. But we cannot continue to view policies like this as only suited for "emergencies" — we need to re-imagine how we support families in this country and invest to lift everyone up at all times.

The CTC expansion is about to expire, and Congress needs to extend it. Will you join me and urge Congress to act?
