This is a small victory, but a victory nonetheless — and one that comes on the heels of mounting pressure from progressive lawmakers, organizers, and activists across the country.

This victory is a profound testament to the power of grassroots activists making their voices heard. But, as President Biden approaches one year in office, much of his agenda remains unfulfilled, including his campaign promise to forgive, or cancel at least $10,000 of federal student loan debt per borrower.

Extending the pause on student loan repayments is a temporary solution to a generational barrier that deprives millions of economic mobility, especially people of color. Through the strength of collective action and constituent pressure, we can organize towards its cancellation all together, dismantle the predatory lending system, and deliver vital, transformative relief for millions of Americans burdened with a lifetime of debt.
