Friend,
Thanks to pressure from organizers and activists like you, President Biden just extended the student loan payment pause until May 1, 2022!
This extension provides immediate but temporary relief for Americans who are struggling to balance paying for food, housing, and health care alongside their student debt.
This is a significant victory for 45 million borrowers around the country, but we will not rest until President Biden makes this short-term relief permanent by canceling all federal student loan debt.
Act now: Tell President Biden to take executive action to cancel student loan debt.
Together, the NextGen community sent over 12,000 personal letters urging President Biden to use his office to transform our education system and end the student debt crisis.
Though the president hasn’t done nearly enough on student debt, today’s major announcement proves that the Biden-Harris administration is still listening to us.
Nevertheless, this last-minute decision caused unnecessary stress for working families that are already dealing with rising COVID cases and continued economic uncertainty. Though we are relieved to hear this decision, we expect much more from the Biden-Harris administration.
President Biden needs to hear from you: Write to tell him we need full cancelation of federal student loan debt.
This extension through May gives us even more time to convince President Biden to cancel student debt and implement long-term solutions to fix our education system. Today’s announcement was an important step, but our work is just getting started!
Thank you,
