Hi John,

For the first time ever, the majority of the UK public have said the climate crisis will influence how they vote. [1] This is our chance for the UK's first climate election.

The UN has told us we have a decade - or two election cycles - to cut global emissions in half. Yet politicians still aren't talking about the climate crisis anywhere near enough. With a UK general election planned in just a few weeks' time, we now have the chance to push them for real climate action that can make a difference.

The UK public have a right to hear what party leaders are planning to do about the climate crisis. Let's call on them to hold a televised debate on climate change. Will you sign the petition?

A national, televised party leaders' debate on the climate crisis would put this crucial issue at the top of the agenda for every political leader. It would drive a race to the top in climate action commitments. And it would allow everyone to be part of the most important conversation we've ever had.

UK voters have a right to know how the candidates are planning to tackle the climate and nature emergency. Holding a televised debate where they can outline their solutions to the crisis would allow them to share their proposals with the general public, and allow all of us to make an informed decision at the ballot box.

Most of all, it could be the key to a mandate for the real, urgent change we need.

Let leaders know you want a climate debate now.

The election period will be short and frantic. Plans are already being drawn up for debates, so to make this happen we need to make sure party leaders and broadcasters know this is something the public is demanding. If we do this fast, we can win this. It only takes two minutes to add your voice - can you get onboard?

For too long, politicians have got away with failing to come up with real plans to bring about the zero-carbon future that we urgently need. But this election is an opportunity to change that.

Thanks for all you do,

James and the climate team.
