I am so honored to be able to do this work with all of you.

John,

It’s truly been a year like no other for America’s labor movement. From the picket lines to the bargaining tables, working people are standing together like never before and refusing to accept the status quo.

And through it all, your activism meant everything—to your co-workers, to other workers nationwide, and to our union family across the country and around the world. The numbers are astounding. Thousands of you stood on strike lines. You made thousands of phone calls. You sent tens of thousands of emails and letters. You fought for good jobs and fair contracts, and you fought to make our communities stronger, safer and healthier.

We’ve been through a lot together this past year. We’ve had successful strikes, organizing victories and breakthroughs on Capitol Hill. Our momentum is growing as we head into 2022.

I am so honored to be able to do this work with all of you. I look forward to continuing our fight together to make the change we all are hungry for. It won’t be easy. Sometimes it will seem impossibly hard. But I know that if we stand in solidarity, we can do anything. Being a part of this labor movement has taught me that lesson, time and time again.

But let’s also take the time this year to reflect, to celebrate our accomplishments and to spend time with the people we love. I look forward to more wins for working people in the year ahead. And I wish you and your loved ones a safe, joyful and healthy holiday season.

In solidarity,

Liz Shuler

AFL-CIO President
