Happy holidays to you, John!
There’s still so much to do for the rest of the year – gathering with family, for me that means having my daughter home from abroad; celebrating how strong we’ve all been this year; and, most importantly, looking back on the victories we’ve fought hard for.
This year required a lot of perseverance and stamina, but I witnessed a community steadfast in their dedication to saving lives. I saw our community step up when we needed it most, especially after far too much tragedy we've witnessed. Still, I feel the potential we have in this moment and the change we can make next year.
In 2021, we helped advance President Biden’s executive orders to address gun violence . We moved landmark gun violence prevention legislation through the House and we’re still fighting in the Senate – meanwhile we won major legislative victories across the country: We banned untraceable “ghost guns” in many states and filed the nation’s first civil lawsuit against the “Ghost Gun” Industry. We exposed malpractice in the ATF.
We’ve partnered with critical actors in the gun violence prevention movement because we know that the key to ending this epidemic is coming together. That means partnering with Fred Guttenberg, gun owners, Manuel and Patricia Oliver of Change the Ref, veterans, and activists across the country.
And our legal team, helmed by Jon Lowy, litigated 25 cases and filed 6 new cases taking on large corporations this year alone. We're attacking this epidemic from all sides – including fighting the NRA in the Supreme Court.
