** Hi there Friend,
------------------------------------------------------------
We are always looking for ways to help us better support LGBTQ young people. Part of improving our services is our Crisis Contact Simulator (CCS). The CCS is an AI-powered counselor training tool that simulates digital conversations with LGBTQ youth in crisis.
This month, we launched our second persona in the CCS to help train even more volunteer counselors for Trevor's free, confidential, and 24/7 digital crisis services.
Since the CCS launched, we have trained more than 1,000 counselors with the tool. This is a part of the first phase of training before moving on to training led by Trevor staff.
The CCS simulates text conversations that capture how young people authentically express themselves, factoring in punctuation, capitalization, and more — all of which train counselors to truly meet young people where they are.

** We're Applauding Canada for Protecting LGBTQ Youth from Conversion Therapy
------------------------------------------------------------
After two previously failed attempts, a bill banning conversion therapy was expedited and approved unanimously in both Canada's House of Commons and Senate.
Research in the United States consistently demonstrates that LGBTQ youth who have been subjected to conversion therapy report significantly higher rates of attempting suicide and other negative mental health outcomes.

** Black@Trevor Spotlight: Malik Ensley
------------------------------------------------------------
At The Trevor Project, we create intentional spaces, called Affinity Groups, that allow members of Team Trevor to connect with each other around their different intersectional identities. Over the next few months, we’ll feature member spotlights from across Trevor’s Affinity Groups.
This month, we’re proud to spotlight Trevor Training Associate and Black@Trevor member Malik Ensley (they/them). As one of The Trevor Project’s pioneering Affinity Groups, Black@Trevor leads with a mission to create spaces and resources for employees who identify within the Black Diaspora (and their allies) to connect, grow relationships, and build community.

** Trevor Publishes Report About Higher Education Institutions and Crisis Services
------------------------------------------------------------
Addressing mental health and suicide is difficult and complex but every higher education institution (HEI) can take small steps that will help save lives.
Colleges and universities often have a "home away from home" role for students — this makes these places vital for helping students maintain their mental health. The importance is heightened when you consider that suicide is the second leading cause of death for those ages 18-24, the average age of college students, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports. Plus, this public health crisis disproportionately impacts LGBTQ students, who are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their straight, cisgender peers.
