The end of the year also marks the end of the fundraising quarter — our first full quarter since we launched this campaign to send Morgan to the U.S. Senate. We’ll explain where we’re at, but if you’re all in already, you can chip in here.
So John, we’ll be honest: We are way behind on our fundraising goals.
We’re running a grassroots-focused campaign that refuses to take a single dollar from corporate PACs. We also know that according to the Center for Responsive Politics, Black women candidates raise on average half of what white candidates raise.
That means this is an uphill battle, and unfortunately our numbers reflect that. We set a goal of raising $50,000 from emails like this in Q4 of 2021, and right now, we’re $24,345 behind.
We know that Ohio needs someone who will do whatever it takes to get political and economic power back on the side of everyday Ohioans. That’s why we’re in this fight to elect Morgan.
But honestly, if we don’t reach this end-of-quarter goal, our mission to flip this Senate seat blue will be more like a flop. The gas, materials, events, organizers, ads, and even coffee required to run a Senate campaign all come with monetary costs, and they add up.
And additionally, everything we’ve been able to raise before midnight on December 31 will be published publicly in the coming weeks by the Federal Elections Commission. That means whatever we can raise right now is a crucial, public test of the viability of this campaign in the months to come.
Only with the help of our grassroots donors will we be able to do everything we need to in 2022 to win this election.
