Give yourself the best gift this Christmas: book you vaccination
Get vaccinated graphic
We are seeing extremely high rates of Covid-19 in Nottingham and I am very worried about the way the new variant Omicron is spreading. Please do everything you can to stay safe.
Vaccinations are now available for first, second and booster jabs. Thousands of appointments are available over the next two weeks. The vaccination centre at the Forest Recreation Ground is open for bookings 8am-8pm every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day and until 5pm on Christmas Eve. Appointments can be booked here [ [link removed] ]. The Victoria Health Centre in the city centre is also open for walk-in jabs without appointment from 9.30am-4.30pm on Thursday and Christmas Eve.
If you have concerns about how you can get to the vaccination centres, our transport team has created a list of available bus and tram routes ? as well the discounts that are available. Find out more here [ [link removed] ].
The best gift you can give yourself this Christmas is a vaccination: protect yourself against the virus.

Stay safe when you visit others
Lateral flow test
If you are planning to see people from other households this Christmas, please take steps to stay safe:
* Take a lateral flow test before you go to be confident you are Covid-free
* Keep rooms well-ventilated
* If you have any symptoms of Covid (fever, cough, loss of taste/smell) please book a PCR test [ [link removed] ] and don?t take the risk of visiting others
I know we all hoped to have a normal Christmas this year, but we have to make sure we continue to take care of ourselves and others.

Change to self-isolation rules
Christmas presents
If you have tested positive for Covid-19 you will now be able to end quarantine after seven days instead of ten by providing negative lateral flow results on day six and day seven. The new Government guidance applies to everyone, regardless of vaccination status. However, you should not end your isolation early if you are still experiencing symptoms. A year of action towards carbon neutrality in 2028
Cllr Sally Longford CN2028
We?ve been working hard to reduce our city?s carbon emissions as we strive to become the UK?s first carbon neutral city by 2028. A lot has been achieved in the first year of delivering the Carbon Neutral 2028 Action Plan, and city-wide CO2 emissions per capita have fallen by over 50% in the last 15 years.
While there have been positive achievements across all the key themes, some highlights include retrofitting more homes across the city to bring them out of fuel poverty while also reducing their carbon footprints and building on our world-class public transport network. I?m delighted to share the news that the Midlands Energy Hub has secured an additional ?82m of Government funding from the Sustainable Warmth competition [ [link removed] ].
We?ve also been working hard on a range of initiatives this year to help businesses become more sustainable. The D2N2 Growth Hub supported organisations to implement sustainability plans, and the ARC project offered grant funding to SMEs across the city, unlocking vital funding to improve the energy efficiency of their premises.
Finally, through our Green Light in the City pop-up space and the Green Rewards app [ [link removed] ], we?re helping Nottingham?s citizens take positive actions to reduce their impact. Every single action makes a difference, so get involved to help us on the journey to carbon neutrality. Find out more here [ [link removed] ].

New bridge across the Trent takes a step closer
Waterside new bridge
I?m pleased that new pedestrian and cycle routes linking communities on both sides of the River Trent took a step closer yesterday when the council?s Executive Board approved the preferred location for a new bridge.
Planning applications can now be submitted for the Waterside Bridge scheme, after nearly 1,200 responses were received, showing strong support overall. The City Council secured ?9.25m from the Government?s Transforming Cities Fund to deliver this scheme.
The bridge will support local, cleaner growth by strengthening links between the city and West Bridgford, providing a quieter, safer option for zero or low carbon journeys. It will also provide easier access to open spaces such as Colwick Park and the green spaces south of the river, offering important benefits for public health. More information is available here.

No changes to bin collection days this Christmas and New Year
Christmas bins and recycling
Bin days usually change at Christmas and New Year due to Bank Holidays ? this year, they don?t because the holidays fall on the weekend. ?So, put your bin out on the usual day, and if you?re not sure when that is, double check on your bin calendar. www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/binreminders [ [link removed] ]
As we approach Christmas, here?s a reminder of all the festive items you CAN and CAN?T recycle:
It?s a *no* to baubles, bows, polystyrene, greasy takeaway containers and plastic bags and toys and a *yes* to cards and paper (without glitter), drinks bottles, both plastic and metal sweets tins and boxes.
And remember ? never bag your recycling ? it should be loose or we can?t recycle it.
