MTV News recently highlighted one of Texas’ most vulnerable and most frequently ignored populations: colonia residents.
Colonias are communities along the border that are typically poor and outside of municipal boundaries. The people in these communities lack basic infrastructure and resources, like paved roads and street lights.
While the remote nature of these areas can make it a challenge to engage with colonia residents, we’re going to do it.
We believe that every voice matters and deserves to be heard, and that we have a responsibility to show up and engage our entire community in our movement. Person by person – that’s how we’re going to win this election.
But organizing in colonias is not easy. Like I said, they’re typically in remote areas, so we’re working right now to make sure we have the resources we need to meet everyone where they are. That’s why I need to ask:
Organizing in colonias is about more than just our campaign as well.
Democrats have long talked about turning Texas blue. Last year, we were closer than ever, and I believe we can do it in 2020. But first, we have to put in the work to register new voters and bring them to the polls.
Your support is what makes this campaign possible. We’ve got just a few months and tons of work to do.
Let’s do this!
