Abortion access is expanding around the world!

Dear John,
As another challenging year ends, the good news is that abortion access is expanding around the world. Despite the upsetting setbacks we’ve seen in the United States, the rest of the world is moving forward. Advocates for reproductive justice have been rallying behind the simple truth that abortion rights are human rights. Momentum is building—and we could use your help.

Here in Mexico, we just celebrated the state of Colima becoming the sixth Mexican state to legalize abortion. That’s after Mexico’s Supreme Court ruled in September ([link removed]) that laws criminalizing abortion are unconstitutional—a historic decision that is already expanding abortion access nationwide. And we began 2021 celebrating the historic legalization of abortion in Argentina ([link removed]) . We’ve also seen laws and policies change recently to expand abortion access in places like India, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

When you support Ipas, you help make historic change like this possible. That’s because you’re supporting Ipas’s years-long, behind-the-scenes work alongside our partners to build movements for abortion rights. This work is not glamorous and is often invisible. It involves years of educating policymakers and supporting local groups to build their advocacy skills. It involves training abortion providers and cultivating support for abortion within health systems so that doctors and health leaders can add their voices to the growing call for change. And then, when change comes, it involves working with ministries of health and community groups to ensure everyone can access high-quality abortion care.
