Dear Mr. xxxxxx:

I know that everyone is very busy right now, but I wanted to take a few minutes to wish you a Merry Christmas, and to also give you an update on a very active month in Washington.

Build Back Broke

We have to start with President Biden’s Build Back Broke bill.  As I’m sure you've probably heard, Joe Manchin, a Democrat Senator from West Virginia, announced he will not support BBB.  With his support gone, and no Republican Senators supporting the bill, this means Build Back Broke, at least in its current form, is likely dead.  This is a great Christmas gift for the American people.

Build Back Broke was nothing more than a leftwing social spending package Biden claimed will cost nothing, not add to the national debt, and decrease inflation. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says that simply is not the case. The package creates over 150 new government programs, would cost almost $5 trillion and would supercharge already out of control inflation.   I applaud Senator Manchin for standing his ground against this radical legislation.

NOTE:  Now that Build Back Broke is dead, I expect Democrats will put a big push on passing H.R. 1, which would federalize elections across the country, and remove election security measures like requiring I.D. to vote.

The Debt Ceiling

On December 15th, Democrats passed an overwhelmingly partisan bill to raise the debt limit by $2.5 trillion. With the strain of inflation reaching record highs, and the price of goods skyrocketing during the holidays, the debt limit increase only serves to tighten those strains as we move into the new year.

The increase allows the Democrat controlled Congress to continue spending without defaulting on the debt until 2023, and as we have seen, Democrats have no problems with big government spending.  Our national debt is now approaching $30 trillion.  Instead of increasing our borrowing, we need to decrease radical spending.

Funding our Military

I am proud to have supported the final draft of the National Defense Authorization Act. Ensuring that our military is well funded, and equipped, has always been a top priority of mine in Congress.  And in fact, the U.S. Constitution requires that we “provide for the common defense.”

This year’s NDAA authorizes a five percent top-line increase in defense funding from fiscal year 2021. It gives our troops a 2.7% pay raise and increases benefits, includes all-time high investments into research and development, and mandates accountability on President Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal disaster. Importantly, the final draft also removes the requirement for women to register for the Selective Service.

As I’m sure you know, the United States faces many threats from countries like China, Russia, North Korea, Iran and others.  It is vitally important that our military remain the most advanced fighting force in the world.
