A group of colleagues in Gaza, Palestine - six healthcare workers wearing face masks

Hi John,

For IPPF, 2021 presented yet another year of major challenges to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to disrupt life as we all knew it – but it has not changed what we do.

Despite the circumstances, our dedicated and talented Member Associations continued to provide life-saving healthcare in over 140 countries. Through their inspiring work, IPPF was able to deliver critical healthcare to millions who want and need it, including communities impacted by humanitarian crises, women and girls, young people, and marginalized groups, such as those living with disabilities and LGBTI+ people.

Working through our global networks we advocate for the protection of sexual and reproductive rights – here we share a snapshot of some of our amazing colleagues, clients, and partners that have shaped 2021:

For a broader overview of SRHR progress throughout 2021, here we also reflect on the advances and setbacks made globally this year in access to abortion care, LGBTI+ rights, contraception, and gender equality. Take a look:

Finally, on a personal level, I wish you, your family, and friends the very best in these most difficult of global circumstances, and good health and fortune in the year ahead.

Happy holidays,

Dr Alvaro Bermejo

Director-General, IPPF
