Wisconsin Supreme Court to Hear WILL Challenge to Dane County Health Orders

The Wisconsin Supreme Court granted a motion to bypass in Becker v. Dane County, meaning the Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear and decide the case brought by two Dane County residents and a Dane County business challenging the authority of the county health officer to issue sweeping orders without approval by the Dane County Board. WILL filed this case in January 2021 in response to a series of emergency orders from Public Health of Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) that restricted and regulated life and commerce in Dane County.

A three-judge panel of the federal Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision in St. Augustine v. Underly, a lawsuit first filed by WILL in 2016, that the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) violated state law when denying transportation benefits to families attending St. Augustine School, an independent Catholic school in Washington County.

WILL is looking for a passionate and entrepreneurial Associate Counsel to join our litigation team to further our K-12 and education reform efforts. The Associate Counsel will work closely with the litigation team and the Director of Education Policy in researching and litigating a wide range of K-12 education issues, primarily in Wisconsin, to empower parents, expand educational options and hold government accountable.

WILL is looking for a highly organized, energetic individual with excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel). The perfect candidate will have between 6 months - 3 years in a development or administrative role (internships can count towards experience). The development assistant will provide support to the development team and help reach out to donors. Help communicate WILL's mission to others!
