The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs

Tuesday, December 21, 2021

Dear John,

Thanks for being a part of the

**Health Affairs**community. We recently released a new resource for
authors where they can
learn about

**Health Affairs** as an organization and how to publish with it.

Early COVID-19 Vaccine Access in Florida

In the early weeks of COVID-19 vaccine availability, one-quarter of
Florida's COVID-19 vaccine doses were distributed through pharmacies
at Publix grocery stores.

Publix was the first retail pharmacy in the state to provide
vaccinations to the eligible general public, and for more than a month
after the initial rollout, Publix remained the sole retail pharmacy
authorized to administer COVID-19 vaccines.

As featured in the December issue of Health Affairs, Jennifer Attonito
and coauthors analyzed the locations of Publix stores

in Florida and found that they tend to be located in areas with an
older, higher-income, and larger share White resident population. Areas
with a greater percentage of the population at or below poverty, or
identifying as Hispanic, had access to fewer vaccination sites than
their wealthier or Whiter counterparts.

Attonito examines this research in more detail in a recent episode of A
Health Podyssey.

Today in Health Affairs Forefront, Courtnee Melton-Fant and coauthors
discuss how structural change is necessary to empower local governments

to address pressing health challenges.

New Help for Authors Resource

The new Help For Authors page and related pages serve as an introduction
to new or existing authors where they can learn about Health Affairs as
an organization and how to publish with it. The original Health
Affairs' author journey was text heavy and didn't present
information that was easy and clear to follow visually.

The new author journey design and layout presents visual cues and guides
to help new and existing authors through the submission, review, and
publishing process. In this new design we also highlight additional
content creation opportunities: podcasts and events. We also include an
FAQs section which we didn't have before.
