Expanding health care services and improving care for our veterans are some of my top priorities in Congress, which is why I’m working to expand health care services at the Garland VA. To help move this project forward, last week I hosted the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough for a tour of the Garland VA Medical Center, where we got to speak with North Texas veterans and the essential health care workers that care for them on a daily basis.

Two years ago, I led the effort to turn the shuttered Baylor Scott and White hospital in Garland into a veterans medical center. Now, I’m leading the bipartisan effort in Congress to expand health care services at the Garland VA which would reduce wait times for veterans, and will extend access to emergency care to non-veteran residents of Garland, as there is currently no immediate access to an emergency room in the city. An expansion of the Garland VA Medical Center would better serve our veterans and the millions of people who call North Texas home, while creating good jobs along the way. 

I’m glad Secretary McDonough got to visit the Garland VA Medical Center with me to see how big of an impact the newly established VA is making in North Texas and to witness how hard the VA medical professionals and staff work to make sure our veterans have what they need to lead healthy lives.

I will continue to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the North Texas VA Health Care System and my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to expand health services at the Garland VA and on other projects that help North Texas veterans.
