We’ve been gratified by the response to Board Chairman Bruce Percelay’s request for your support. If you are among those that recently gave, a gift acknowledgement is on its way with our thanks.

If you haven’t given yet, please take a moment to review the letter below and consider including the Kennedy Institute among the organizations you support this year. Your gift today will help provide civics education to students across the Commonwealth and across the country, and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Thank you in advance, and best wishes for a healthy and safe holiday season for you and your family.

Sue Heilman
Interim Executive Director

Dear Friend,

At no time in our modern history has it been more important for citizens of this country to understand and appreciate our democracy.

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute educates and promotes the values of our democratic government and the United States Senate in particular. Our mission to teach people, both young and old, how our system works has never been more critical. Nor has our need for your support.

Thousands of people per year either come through our doors or benefit from our online programs, enabling us to demonstrate the importance of protecting our system of government. The Kennedy Institute fills an important role in providing civics education that, in many cases, has disappeared from our school systems, and without which young people will not have the opportunity to learn and lead going forward.

We ask you for your support of our mission, which ultimately will help protect democracy as we know it. Please join us in fighting for democracy with a gift of any amount that is right for you.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Bruce A. Percelay
Chairman of the Board

** Make a Gift (Dear <>: More quickly than you might have thought possible, we had to pivot. As one of Boston’s leading in-person hubs for civic engagement and education, we had to reimagine everything. Since we had to close the building for several months over the spring and summer as a result of the pandemic, we knew we could not miss a beat. Our “Senate Chamber” work evolved quickly into “virtual” experiences for students, their teachers, and families. The Institute reopened this fall and now can safely welcome groups back, and we're delighted about that. But we also are delighted that virtual programming has been successful and is here to stay, allowing us to offer programs to young people wherever they live or go to school. Perhaps Emily Silas, a 27-year veteran teacher of grades 11 and 12 at Boston English High School, said it best. “It was really great. They were so into it,” she said. As each student chose a state of the union to “represent,” Silas added, “The kids felt like their
voices were heard - which is notable because so many of them were only speaking through the ‘chat.’” Dennis Frank, another veteran teacher from a middle school outside Schenectady, NY added: The Kennedy Institute... “is a professional organization that’s extremely well run, capable of “…engaging 13- and 14- year olds in a way they may not expect…” All in the midst of a pandemic. We need your support to continue this important work. Your gift will help us to increase our reach, grow our impact, and play a central role in advancing civic engagement at a time of great need and interest. Since its founding, the Kennedy Institute has been guided by the late Senator’s commitment to education, civic engagement, and experience as ways to enroll citizens in our democratic process. Others before you have made a charitable investment in advancing this work. Will you consider a gift as well, perhaps $100, $50, or an amount that is right for you?)
