Dear neighbors,
Today, on Election Day, I am writing to urge you to re-elect Jumaane Williams for NYC Public Advocate and vote for Melinda Katz for Queens District Attorney. Along with an important citywide office and the next Queens District Attorney – we have five referendums on the ballot.
Jumaane Williams is a proven progressive supporter. As NYC Public Advocate – he will continue to compel government agencies adhere to the best interest of all NYC residents. Jumaane has championed for responsible NYPD policies and worked tirelessly to revamp our government without the help of an established political class. I am eager to re-elect Jumaane for public advocate and ask you to do the same.
Melinda Katz has promised to boost our progressive voices as Queens District Attorney. As the Democrat in the race, I keenly back Melinda Katz for Queens DA. Melinda’s commitment to boost construction work site accountability, enforce hate crime laws, and end cash bail are of major importance to our community. As District Attorney, Melinda has vowed her refusal to prosecute sex workers, an important issue to me that directly impacts our most vulnerable neighbors. I look forward to electing a new Queens DA - for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Lastly, the five referendums up for vote are critical updates to our City Charter. This is an opportunity to carry out ranked-choice voting, empower the Civilian Control Review Board, improve ethics in government, green-light a fiscally responsible City budget, and allow community boards more time to opine on land use proposal. I invite you to vote YES on all five referendums so we can bring New York City government up to speed.
Our fight for a progressive, socially just future is not over. The best tool we have is our right to vote – let’s put it to good use.
In solidarity,
State Senator Jessica Ramos
