We’ve made it through 2021.
The year has been filled with highs and lows as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to claim lives and challenge us to adjust to new normals, rethink priorities, and ultimately allow ourselves to hope with the rollout of the vaccine.
We at America's Voice want to thank you for all of your support throughout the trials of the year.
This year, immigrants across the country continued to face unprecedented challenges ranging from continuing to risk their lives every day at their essential jobs, to keeping our country safe and healthy during the pandemic. We witnessed the mistreatment of Haitians from Border Patrol as Black immigrants tried to seek asylum in the U.S. and many were left heartbroken when the Senate Parliamentarian ruling against including immigration permits for undocumented immigrants in the Build Back Better bill.
Yet, our communities continued to fight on. We stood against racism and xenophobia, we designated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela and Burma as well as extended and redesigned it for Syria. We also ended the “Public Charge” rule which forced immigrants to take a wealth test in order to be allowed permanent residence in our country. We reunited more families that were separated by Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” policy and we continued to fight for immigration reform.
This was all possible because advocates like you signed petitions, made calls to members of Congress, donated to help immigrant families, and so much more. THANK YOU!
We still have a long way to go, but we at America’s Voice could not be more proud of the resistance that our community continues to show.
In 2022, we will build upon the progress we made this year and continue to ensure that those trying to provide a better life for themselves and their families are treated with dignity and respect.
We will continue to hold Democrats accountable to make sure that they deliver on their promise to pass immigration reform and ensure that anti-immigrant policies such as Title 42 and the Migration Protection Protocols (MPP) or the “Remain in Mexico” policy are eliminated once and for all.
Next year is also an election year. We will be following the midterm elections closely and will keep you up to date on where candidates stand on immigration issues.
We’ll be sharing more information with you on that soon - stay tuned for info.
In the meantime, you can continue to support our work and our mission with a donation. Click here to donate to America’s Voice today. [link removed]
Our mission to ensure a pathway to citizenship for approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants that are already Americans in every way except on paper and for Congress to enact pro-immigrant policy changes is as strong as it ever was.
We look forward to coming back in 2022 with new ideas to help support our immigrant community across the country.
On behalf of everyone at America’s Voice, I want to wish you a safe, healthy, and joyous holiday season.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Juana
