Friend,
The omicron variant is surging across the country while millions of Americans travel for the holidays. Here in Georgia, COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen 50 percent in the last month.
Scientists say omicron spreads even easier than other coronavirus strains and that getting vaccinated AND boosted is the best way to prevent infection.
Last July, shortly after my campaign for Senate ended, I tested positive for COVID-19.
My symptoms started with fatigue and awful headaches for about three days. Then, I had what I thought was food poisoning. I had a terrible sore throat and painful body aches the following morning.
I scheduled a COVID test as soon as I could – and by the time I got to the testing site a few hours later, I could barely stand.
The provider who administered my test said I had a “textbook case” of COVID-19. I started my 14-day quarantine even before the test came back positive.
COVID-19 progresses extremely quickly. It was only a few hours before my symptoms went from annoying to incredibly severe. That means all of us must be vigilant about how we’re feeling and with whom we’re interacting.
Cases are rising, but with tests, vaccines, and boosters, we’re better able to stop cases from turning into hospitalizations.
Remember “flatten the curve?” That’s our mission again, and it’ll take all of us.
Thank you so much for all you do. Please continue to stay safe,
– Sarah
