As 2021 draws to a close, I can’t help but look back in amazement at all the milestones we’ve celebrated in our work combating human trafficking this year. Despite the continued challenges of COVID-19, we were able to stop traffickers and protect victims in unprecedented numbers.
From the first life sentence for a child trafficker in Uganda to the first conviction under Belize’s Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Act of 2013, our Partner Countries made monumental strides in the fight against trafficking.
On the U.S. side, HTI released the first-ever comprehensive report on all federal human trafficking prosecutions in the United States over the past two decades, a tool that will be used to strengthen the U.S. fight against trafficking.
