John,

In 2021, the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) made critical progress in the key areas we fight. Along with our force of advocates, we have been gaining momentum in our efforts to end weight bias and discrimination, expand access to care and ensure each person affected by obesity has a voice in the room where decisions are being made. We hope you will join this progress and contribute to our year-end fundraising goal of $10,000. With your support, we can ensure our advocacy efforts don't slow down in 2022!

In the new year, the OAC will increase the pressure on local, state and federal lawmakers to introduce and pass legislation that will ensure every individual in our Community is not only treated with dignity and respect but can access and afford the care they need.

We are equally focused on ensuring that every individual has a voice and can use that voice in our fight for equality. The OAC is committed to developing a robust advocacy training program that will allow ample opportunities for anyone that wants to join as we use our collective power to make change.

When you make your tax-deductible donation to OAC this season, you will make an immediate impact as we fight for a better world.

OAC Advocacy in Action

The fight has only just begun...

Standing up against weight discrimination

The Stop Weight Bias Campaign brought weight discrimination into the spotlight as an injustice that cannot be tolerated. Currently, only one state in the U.S. has passed a law prohibiting this prejudice. This year, the OAC and our Community have been hard at work in Massachusetts, working with legislators to make the state the second to enact this legislation. In 2022, the OAC will replicate this critical work in other states across the country.

Passing the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act

The OAC has been working with key partners in passing this vital legislation to expand coverage for obesity care. 2022 marks the 10-year anniversary of the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act, and during this decade of waiting, people with obesity continue to delay the care they need because they cannot afford the necessary treatment options. Over 125 Senators and Representatives have signed on as cosponsors to the bill this year, and it is a goal of OAC to have this PASSED in the coming year.

Elevating and empowering our Community

In the new year, the OAC will continue our work to be the leading voice fighting for the dignity of each person affected by obesity. We will continue to call out and demand changes to how the media addresses people with obesity, enforce the call to use people-first language, be a leader in the push for equality and more!
