Dear John
As we near the end of 2021, I’d like to say a big thank you for being part of Friends of the Earth this year. With your help, we've achieved so much.
Together we celebrated Friends of the Earth Netherlands’ landmark win against oil giant Shell. Our sister organisation triumphed in court, securing a ruling that saw the polluter ordered to drastically reduce its emissions by much steeper targets than previous goals.
We also drew the media spotlight towards climate injustice and government hypocrisy on fossil fuels. From this month's court case challenging support for the Mozambique mega gas project [1] to the Cambo oil field in the North Sea – which is now on hold, with even Shell pulling out last month [2].
Your actions helped secure safeguards for nature in the new Environment Act and push the government to scrap dangerous reforms to the planning system.
And during the Glasgow climate talks, our network of groups brought communities across the country together to demand action. A huge moment for global people power, after a successful year of groups campaigning for local climate action plans from their councils and mayors.
Whether you donated, signed a petition, wrote to your MP, joined a group or spread the word on social media, you made this happen. Thank you so much for your support.
If you're keen to cut down on hassle and paper waste this season, then we’ve got a wide range of free festive e-cards for you. Just select a design, add up to 10 recipients, write a personal message for each, choose to make an optional donation and then send or schedule for a later date.

That’s it from me this year. We’ll be back in the new year with more news, updates and ways for you to get involved. In the meantime, take care of yourself and have a great Christmas!
All the best,
Aleanna Shaughnessy
Supporter Relations Manager
