Dear John,

Tens of thousands of Northern Manhattan students — and hundreds of thousands of students across New York — live in environmental justice communities. Unfortunately, there are no major environmental education programs available to these students that focus on environmental justice issues, culturally relevant educational programming, and leadership development.

WE ACT will address this gap by establishing an Urban Environmental Education Center in West Harlem. With your support, we will create a first-of-its-kind resource in New York City, educating students from Northern Manhattan and beyond on environmental justice, environmental health, and community-driven advocacy leadership.

WE ACT’s Urban Environmental Education Center will be a permanent home for our educational programming, with dedicated classroom and lab space.

Along with educating Northern Manhattan students, WE ACT’s Urban Environmental Education Center will provide a home for our Worker Training Program, and for working groups and leadership development for WE ACT’s 1,100 members. The Center will also serve as a convening space for environmental justice thought leadership, in our community and nationally. to further climate justice at the local and state levels.

The construction of this center will help fuel critical career pathways and serve as a model for environmental justice communities across the country. We are so excited to begin the development of this groundbreaking project, but we can’t do it without your help. Your support will enable us to offer students hands-on STEM and Environmental Health learning experiences while pursuing climate justice in Northern Manhattan.
