Your donation today will help us reach children, like Marianna, who are suffering from food insecurity and are at risk for poor health.
Your support helps Hunger Free America connect with food insecure families in their local communities- where they live, work and shop. Like one-year-old Marianna and her mom, who met one of our WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) Benefits Specialists at a Queens, NY farmers market and desperately needed our help.
They had recently immigrated from Colombia and without an immediate source of income, mom was relying on financial assistance from family members to afford milk and food for the baby. The federal WIC program is designed to help low-income families like this one access nutritional support and healthy foods to give kids the best start in life. But, more than half of all eligible women and children do not enroll in the program in New York. Most, like Marianna’s mom, simply because they do not know it exists.
Thanks to Hunger Free America and donors like you, Marianna is now enrolled in the WIC program and each month her mom is able to shop for nutritious foods like yogurt, milk, vegetables, and fruits to help her grow healthy and strong.
