Hello,
I am reaching out before the holidays to let you all know how much I value your input. This is especially true right now as I embark on one of the most important appointments I’ll make as Mayor - hiring a new police chief.
Back in early November, Chief Eve Thomas announced her retirement, effective May 1, 2022. Chief Thomas has led our police department through some very challenging times. I am grateful for her leadership and for her willingness to stay through the spring, providing us ample time to find her successor.
I will be conducting a national search for her replacement. This does not preclude internal candidates, but makes sure we cast a wide net for this crucial role. I want the best person to protect and serve the people of Knoxville.
Over the next few weeks we will be gathering input from you, our residents, about the attributes you want to see in our next Chief.
As part of that process we are announcing five drop-in style meetings where you can ask questions and share your concerns and suggestions.
Here is the meeting schedule:
Friday, Jan. 7
11 a.m.-1 p.m./Larry Cox Senior Center, 3109 Ocoee Trail
3-5 p.m./City County Building, Small Assembly Room, 400 Main Street
Monday, Jan. 10
11 a.m.-1 p.m./Family Justice Center, 400 Harriet Tubman St.
5-7 p.m./City of Knoxville Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave.
Tuesday, Jan. 11
11 a.m.-1 p.m./South Knoxville Community Center, 522 Maryville Pike
If you are unable to make one of these sessions, comments can be sent to [email protected].
