Hi ,
Associated Press photojournalist John Minchillo was physically attacked by a swarm of rioters while covering the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
American journalist Danny Fenster was freed after spending 176 days in a Myanmar prison for alleged ties to a banned news organization critical of the military.
International press freedom advocates urged Afghan authorities to investigate the death of broadcast journalist Mina Khairi, who died when a bomb planted under a van exploded.
These are extreme examples of the trauma that media professionals face when they choose to dedicate their lives to keeping citizens — their neighbors, family members and friends — informed with factual information.
Considering the pandemic, civil unrest, natural disasters and a swell of misinformation, 2021 has been a grim year for journalists worldwide.
Journalists save lives with their weather forecasts, mitigate the spread of a deadly virus by clarifying health guidelines, and uphold their vow to report the truth with integrity.
And journalism needs our support now more than ever.
