Dear John,
As the year draws to a close, we are deeply grateful for you – everyone who reads and shares our work, follows us on Twitter or Facebook, or makes a donation – and all that you help CGS achieve.
Here are just a few ways that – with your help – we are fighting for a just and inclusive future where no one is judged by their genes.
-
We called on President Biden to take leadership by opposing heritable genome editing, influenced the World Health Organization’s recommendations for how to govern human gene editing, and exposed scientists filing for patents in order to profit from “CRISPR baby” techniques. In 2022, we’ll bring essential social justice and human rights perspectives to the Third International Summit on Human Genome Editing.
-
We raised alarms about fertility clinics using black box algorithms to “rank” IVF embryos. We continued to advocate for the rights and well-being of women acting as surrogates and egg providers. We produced the most comprehensive and accurate map of US surrogacy policies available. In 2022, we’ll continue to push back against the excesses of the for-profit global fertility industry.
-
In multiple events and articles, we highlighted the lasting harms and continuing presence of eugenic thinking and practices in the US. We supported the successful fight to compensate survivors of eugenic sterilization in California. In 2022, we’ll expose the eugenic ideas that helped shape the life sciences and disrupt the eugenic potential of powerful new human biotechnologies.
As we consider all that we can accomplish in the coming year – and the challenges it holds – we are grateful that we can rely on your support.
