Tell President Biden and Senate leadership: Pass Build Back Better

LCV

Friend — yesterday, Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia announced he would not support the Build Back Better legislation in its current form, stepping away from the negotiating table. The bill requires 50 votes to pass in the Senate — we need every Democratic senator.

This is not the end of the road. We will keep fighting like hell to ensure the strongest climate bill in U.S. history becomes law.

Our best chance for climate and environmental justice is to pass Build Back Better. Today, we're asking every LCV supporter to reach out to President Biden and Senate leadership to call for passage of the Build Back Better Act as soon as possible.

Will you send your letter today? We've set a goal of sending 10,000 letters by midnight. It's urgent that they hear from you »

TAKE ACTION NOW

Sen. Manchin's position is both infuriating and deeply harmful — for the people of West Virginia and for all people in this country who care deeply about climate, jobs, and justice.

He doesn't have to look further than the deadly tornadoes that devastated neighboring Kentucky for the deadly impacts of a climate catastrophe. His fellow West Virginians understand this and have suffered from dangerous climate-fueled flooding. The overwhelmingly popular Build Back Better Act will save West Virginians money on their energy bills and other monthly expenses, create good-paying union jobs, and build a healthier, more equitable clean energy future for every community.

Friend — there is a way forward here. Both the White House and other members of Congress are putting serious pressure on Manchin to continue conversations.

Press Secretary Jen Psaki called out Senator Manchin's previous promises to support the Build Back Better framework — and negotiate on finalizing it "in good faith."

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a moderate in the House, also called Manchin out: "... after months of negotiations, one Democratic Senator has now summarily walked away from productive negotiations. That is unacceptable, and we cannot act like this moment is the end. Children, families, and the future of our planet are counting on us."

The imperative to support legislation to act on climate and avert future devastation must be crystal clear for Sen. Manchin. We must keep fighting for a climate-centered Build Back Better Act to pass as soon as possible.

Send your letter today. Working on this must be a top priority until the climate bill is passed »

Thank you, friend, for everything that you do for the environment. So far this year, supporters like you have powered a campaign to get the most significant climate bill in history to the edge of passage.

There's no way we're letting the fight end here.

Sincerely,
