Social media has been used by political parties to influence and manipulate voters, but it also has the potential to help reduce irregularities. In Colombia, where election fraud and vote-buying are common, researchers conducted a randomized evaluation to measure the impact of Facebook ads that encouraged citizens to report irregularities during a mayoral election.
