ACLU Supporter –
Last Thursday, the Justice Department informed the ACLU that it was abandoning negotiations in our ongoing lawsuit to compensate the families that were cruelly separated by the Trump administration at the border.
As a reminder, approximately 5,500 children, some as young as 6 months, were deliberately ripped away from their families by the Trump administration under the family separation practice. We still have not been able to find and reunite all of them.
We were negotiating in good faith with the Biden administration to obtain compensation for these traumatized families – but by leaving settlement talks, they are in fact choosing to defend Trump's cruel practices in court going forward. It's shameful.
As the ACLU continues critical legal efforts now, I'm asking you to join us in holding President Biden to public account – and demand further action: Add your name to ACLU's petition today.

ACLU Supporter, the U.S. government deliberately abused young children by separating them from their families. It is our country's responsibility to help heal these families we so wronged.
Yes, Trump devised and implemented these horrific practices. But it is now on President Biden. In 2018, Biden stated clearly on family separation, "A policy that traumatizes children isn't a bargaining chip. It's abhorrent."
We agree. Now the Biden administration is playing politics with the lives and futures of families seeking asylum.
Make no mistake, the ACLU was in this fight from the start – filing a successful challenge against family separation when it first began in 2018. And we'll be in the fight for the long haul – pursuing every legal avenue for these parents and their children.
As we continue pushing forward, please join us in telling President Biden we do not support him abandoning his principles and these families, and urge him to do more: Sign our petition now.
