For months, Joe Manchin has been a courageous and often lonely voice in the debate over the Build Back Better bill. He kept asking the uncomfortable but essential questions about the partisan way the bill was developed and the risks of Washington spending trillions more at a moment of raging inflation and a spreading COVID variant. And Sunday, Senator Manchin demonstrated the courage of his convictions in stating he just can’t support the bill in front of him. We support Senator Manchin fully for closing off the partisan path of the BBB. We hope this will force Washington back to the path it should have been on all along. It’s the path that members of both parties in the House and Senate traveled for months when they worked together to forge and pass the most historic infrastructure bill in 60 years. It’s the path they should take once again to solve America’s other consequential challenges. We know Senator Manchin is driven by both a deep compassion for helping those in need now and a commitment to keep this country safe, secure and strong for generations to come. In the coming days and weeks, No Labels will be alongside him and every other Republican or Democrat in Congress who works for two-party solutions to America’s problems.
