John, It’s been nearly a year since a crowd of violent insurrectionists, incited by former President Trump, attacked the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election. Since then, we have worked tirelessly in the ongoing effort to hold Trump and his allies accountable for nearly toppling our democracy and violating the rule of law. Now we are urging Secretaries of State and election officials across the country to uphold the Constitution, which clearly states that Trump and his elected allies cannot run for future public office. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies any individual who has taken an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then engages in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or has given aid or comfort to those who have. It is precisely events like those on and around January 6th for which Section 3 was intended. As we approach the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, we are preparing to take this campaign to the next level. But to succeed, we must show that there is widespread support for abiding by the Constitution in these unprecedented times. Sign our petition and share it with friends: Trump’s incitement of the January 6th insurrection disqualifies him from running for public office. We have the opportunity to demand accountability and a more robust democracy in 2022. It starts with making sure that those intent on destroying our republic cannot ever hold power again. Sign and forward this email if you agree: Secretaries of State must follow the Constitution’s mandate and disqualify Trump from holding any future office. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
