As experts ponder the chances of Republicans taking back the House in 2022, they’re looking at what kinds of tactics and priorities a red House would take up in 2023 should they take back the chamber.
As The Washington Post reports:
"Conservative lawmakers, anticipating the GOP retaking one or both congressional majorities in next year’s midterm elections, are already calling for and strategizing around a fiscal clash in 2023, insisting on using the threat of federal default to place new curbs on government spending and reduce the $28 trillion national debt…."
Put another way, Republicans will clash hard against Democrats and undo the progress we’ve made as they did after the 2010 midterms, hoping to shut down President Obama’s agenda.
New York Magazine notes that Republicans will go on a “hostage-taking rampage, beginning with the very item on which a debt default and a global economic crisis was just narrowly averted.”
But this time it would likely be much worse as Donald Trump will still have control over much of the GOP and will push them into even more extreme and risky stances.
John, this is a possibility, but not reality. If Democrats coalesce together around the races we MUST win right now, we can stop the Republican takeover of the House.
That’s precisely why I’m emailing. After reading these articles, I’m even more dedicated to fighting to keep my seat out of the hands of the far-right.
The fate of the House may come down to whether we can keep PA-08 blue. And with two far-right opponents, we’re going to pull out all the stops. Can you chip in even just $10 to keep the House blue?
