Earlier today, Senator Manchin announced on Fox News that he will not support the Build Back Better Act in its current form.

When Sen. Manchin says he will not support this critical piece of legislation, he’s against lowering the price of childcare and providing universal pre-K for our families. He’s against building the affordable housing units — one million of them — that Americans across the country desperately need. And he’s against lowering the cost of prescription drugs and allowing Medicare to negotiate fair prices.

It’s outrageous, and it’s a slap in the face to the vast majority of Americans who support this bill.

And we know it’s fully paid for by asking the wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share. Time and time again, we’ve seen legislation pass the House only to be blocked by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans. And now Sen. Manchin is joining that opposition on this critical bill. Enough. The time to help hard working families is now. They need the government to work for them.
