Brittany’s under attack by the right wing media machine, and we need to have her back.
Email from Brand New Congress

John -- Brittany Ramos-DeBarros clearly has Republicans worried.

In a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-to-1, there is no reason a pro-Trump Republican and insurrection-apologist like Nicole Malliotakis should be in power. And Brittany’s bold vision for a Staten Island that works for working people is resonating with voters.

So of course we aren’t surprised to see that Brittany’s character is being viciously smeared by reactionary right-wing media outlets like Breitbart and Fox News.

The right-wing media machine is coming out in full force, attempting to shame Brittany because she dared to host a groundbreaking pro-veteran, anti-war fundraiser in 2019.

This show created a powerful healing space for post-9/11 Veterans to reclaim their bodies from the horrific violence they experienced or witnessed in the military and war, and raised funds for ongoing Veteran healing efforts and anti-war organizing in the process.

The money she raised through this event funded a veteran-to-veteran, peer-to-peer hotline connecting vets with mental health services and care packages.

The right-wing media didn’t report on the veterans that Brittany helped. Instead, look at what they’re saying about her:

Apparently, an educational burlesque show -- a military tradition that dates back to at least WWII -- is more offensive than corporations and corrupt politicians sending our loved ones to fight forever wars, or the fact that more than half of women in the military report being sexually harassed or assaulted.

As a survivor of sexual violence myself, I know how important it is to create spaces for healing where we can assert the fundamental human right to control our own bodies.

I’m proud of Brittany’s work, and I refuse to let these attacks against her stand. Will you join me in standing up for Brittany?

Let’s face it, John, if Brittany were a man she wouldn’t be facing these racist, sexist attacks.

The sad reality is that misogyny is par for the course for women of color running for office -- rich consultants flock to this vile rhetoric and dirty politics any time their power is being threatened, especially by a strong woman.

This isn’t new for Brittany. In 2018, extremists called her a traitor for boldly standing against corruption between politicians and corporate contractors who profit from war.

Brittany is a born leader -- she’s a combat veteran and former Army Captain who has risked everything to do what’s right time and time again.

Now she has a new opponent in the primary, a conservative Democrat who already lost to Nicole Malliotakis once.

We need to send a strong message that we stand with Brittany and will ALWAYS have her back. Will you join me by splitting a contribution between her campaign and Brand New Congress?

In Solidarity,

Cory Archibald
