Team, this is bullshit — Conservative Democrat Joe Manchin just dealt a blow to workers and families across the country, announcing that he can’t get on board with the Build Back Better Act.
Manchin says he’s rejecting this critical bill because if he “can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it.”
But I don’t understand how he can go home and explain how he didn’t vote for it. The people of West Virginia would directly benefit from an expanded Child Tax Credit, Medicare expansion, long-term elder care, and bold climate action — just like Minnesotans. That’s why I proudly fought for this bill and made sure it passed in the House.
It’s unconscionable that Manchin would rather do the bidding of his corporate and Republican donors than deliver on Democrats’ promises to the American people — but that’s exactly what’s going on here.
He’s torpedoing President Biden and Democrats’ agenda to please his donors, and it’s what progressives warned would happen if we separated the infrastructure and Build Back Better Act votes.
But we can’t let this roadblock stop us fighting for bold, transformative change that will meet the moment we’re in and help build a better future for generations to come. We need to fight harder than ever before and grow our progressive coalition to stop Republicans and conservative Democrats from getting in the way of the change people across the country deserve.
This is more than a campaign, it’s a movement. That’s why I’m asking for your support today: Can you chip in any amount to power our movement’s work for progress and make sure we deliver on Democrats’ mandate for bold, progressive change?

I know today’s news was frustrating, disheartening, and, yes, total bullshit. Together, we can fight back and create the future we deserve. Thanks for being part of this.
