With the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health looming, there is a real chance that the Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade next year. Make no mistake, this would be the gravest threat to reproductive freedom in almost 50 years – since Roe was decided.
An attack on reproductive freedom is an attack on every person’s basic human dignity and personal autonomy. We need federal protections to make sure no individual state or far-right legislators can take these rights away.
At a time when our economy is already stacked against those who need reproductive care, particularly people of color and single parents, this attack on reproductive freedom threatens every family's future and ability to pursue their goals and dreams.
The right to abortion care must be solidified nationwide, because otherwise draconian state bans – like those currently in place in Texas and Mississippi – will continue to spread. Far-right legislators have promised to continue trying to pass new ones, and we will need federal laws to stop them.
