The Senate has time for bloated military spending but not Build Back Better.
Last week, two big things happened in the Senate:
- They passed an excessive, bloated military budget of $768,000,000,000. That’s even more than Trump’s last defense budget. It’s a giveaway to defense contractors. And it’s just wrong.
- They further delayed Build Back Better and investments in working people, families, and our communities. That means delaying historic funding for child care, paid leave, climate action, housing, education, health care, and more.
What is the message the Senate is sending people across America when it has time to pass a bloated Pentagon budget, but fails to act with urgency on Build Back Better? The message is that giveaways to defense contractors and corporations are more important than investing in the people.
The message is that a military spending bill that is larger than Trump’s last Pentagon budget is more important than fighting climate change, securing universal pre-K, paid family and medical leave, affordable child care, and Medicare expansion, and investing in affordable housing, health care, home care, and immigration reform. The Senate can’t turn its back on these urgent issues. They need to get their priorities in order.
The House did our work, and now it’s time for the Senate to do theirs. Millions of working people and families across America are depending on us. The Senate can’t leave them behind. It’s time to deliver.
Our urgent work to CUT military spending, pass Build Back Better, and enact voting rights legislation needs your support. Can you chip in $3 towards our fight for what the people, our families, and our communities desperately need?
